Reflections From A Lockdown

Sometimes during these days of lockdown, a thought constantly comes to mind – let’s look at the brighter side of things.

That such a lockdown is once in a lifetime experience, means that rest of the life has been without any catastrophe of this magnitude.

Are we lucky to have this experience? What would our state have been if we did not have technology at our disposal?

Due to technology, we are connected with our colleagues, families and friends and therefore this lockdown has not locked down our spirit.

As I reflect on the last few days after all the messages and the phone calls, there is one thing that stands out – our country is together in this crisis, while several superpowers have been brought to their knees.

I feel we are lucky to have seen demonstration of some great leadership abilities across the political landscape. It has been more about governance and less about politics.

It took a virus to make us realize that we need to come together to fight the ills that beset us.

Yes, it has taken a virus to get the best out of us and make us realize that we need to come together to fight the ills that beset us.

I have also gained tremendous respect for the municipality administration and the police. The supply chain of essentials, services like garbage collection and other maintenance activities are working. So are the internet and phone companies.

Many of our generation are not used to working from home and ‘work from home’ is not an idea most minds can accept. But these past few days have made me realize of the immense possibilities it offers. Work from home will explode in days to come when companies realize the possible savings in time and money.

Finally, I am also happy being in the profession of medical technology, logistics, administration and information technology. We will be able to contribute professionally to the existing needs and more so when the lockdown is lifted.

Stay safe folks and let’s help each other.
