On Behalf Of Those Who Can’t

Rachana takes stock of what has improved for other species while human is under attack from the virus.

We are amid a chaos right now, all across the world, trying to hold our breath with each day bringing in unfortunate news and a rising death toll.

But there are those who have got some relief during this time. Since they cannot speak for themselves, let me put in a word on their behalf.

The voice that echos all around the neighborhood, seemingly until an infinite distance nowadays, is not the honking or the exhausts, or the constant drilling or yelling, but the birds singing happy tunes day and night. They must have never felt so lively, so homely, and so free. There is no one to cutt them off. I am happy they are our songs of the day.

The clouds, they never felt so pure, so white – as they have nothing to infiltrate them – at least for some more days now.

The trees, they must be able to actually breathe in, and also  feel so lively, we can actually feel it. They are happy to shelter birds, animals again rather than absorbing the garbage that we throw at them thinking they would benefit from it.

Lastly, our own eyes must be so happy, that we are able to see what we could not for so many days, and enjoy these moments, also realizing some responsibilities that we have towards the environment.

Yes, the environment does communicate with us, but till date we were just some deaf humans, busy in our own worlds.

I am sure we can enjoy living their world right now, until they start adjusting to our so-called life.
